Massie Condemns Trump’s ‘Bullying’ Behavior Towards Colleague Lee
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent post where he urged a primary challenger to run against Rep. Laurel Lee, R-Fla., labeling the comments as “ridiculous bullying tactics.”
Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to post his message, “Any great MAGA Republicans looking to run against Laurel Lee in Florida’s 15th Congressional District? IF SO PLEASE STEP FORWARD!”
Lee was the sole member of the Florida House delegation to support Gov. Ron DeSantis over Trump in the GOP presidential primary. However, after DeSantis dropped out of the race earlier this year, she switched her endorsement to Trump.
“This is unhelpful and unwarranted,” Massie responded on X in reference to Trump’s post. He added, “@RepLaurelLee is a conservative thoughtful member of the judiciary committee. She endorsed DeSantis for President but then endorsed Trump when DeSantis got out of the race. More of my colleagues should call out these ridiculous bullying tactics.”
Representative Chip Roy, R-Texas, also endorsed Massie’s post, saying “Co-sponsor.” Roy had also supported DeSantis over Trump in the GOP presidential primary.
While Trump’s animosity towards Lee may stem from her initial backing of DeSantis, Lee was also among the 101 Republicans who voted in favor of the $1.2 trillion government funding bill.
Newsmax contacted Lee’s campaign office for a statement.
