Matt Whitaker accuses Garland of placing himself ‘above the law’ in Newsmax interview
Former acting U.S. Attorney General Matt Whitaker has criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland for placing himself above the law and struggling to differentiate his roles as judge, jury, and prosecutor.
Despite the House voting to hold Garland in contempt of Congress, the Department of Justice has announced that they will not prosecute him for refusing to turn over the audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with a special counsel, stating that it did not constitute a crime.
Whitaker pointed out the inconsistency in prosecuting other cases for contempt while ignoring the contempt from the House, calling it a prime example of a two-tiered system of justice.
He also accused Garland of hiding behind legal opinions that suggest he is above the law.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced plans to move to federal court to enforce the subpoena against Garland.
