Matthew Whitaker Slams Colorado Trump Ruling as a ‘Total Farce’ in Interview with Newsmax
Former Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker expressed his views in an interview with Newsmax on Thursday regarding the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to keep former President Donald Trump off the ballot next November, calling it “a complete farce.”
Whitaker claimed that the Colorado case disregarded the rule of law by determining Trump’s ineligibility to be on the ballot in Colorado based on a weeklong hearing where he wasn’t allowed to call witnesses or subpoena evidence. Whitaker made these statements during an appearance on Newsmax’s “The Chris Salcedo Show.”
He went on to criticize the decision, pointing out that it was made by a 4-3 vote of Democrats, and warning that such rulings could create chaos in the future.
The Colorado Supreme Court had ruled Tuesday that Trump cannot appear on the ballot in the 2024 election due to his alleged incitement of the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters. This makes Trump the first presidential candidate in U.S. history to be deemed ineligible for the White House under this ruling.
The ruling will likely be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Colorado court has stayed its own ruling until Jan. 4, 2024, to allow time for appeals to be filed.
