Matthew Whitaker tells Newsmax: There is a possibility of Hunter going to prison for tax conviction
Matthew Whitaker, the acting attorney general in the Trump administration, spoke with Newsmax on Tuesday about Hunter Biden’s federal tax case, highlighting the potential prison time he could face if convicted, which is more severe than his recent conviction for violating federal gun charges.
In Wilmington, Delaware, a jury found President Joe Biden’s son guilty of three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018. Hunter Biden falsely stated on a gun-purchase form that he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine. However, as a first-time offender, his expected sentence is likely less severe.
Matthew Whitaker mentioned, “Even though they’re only advisory, there are sentencing guidelines that are still applicable under U.S. law. I think that’s probably what [Judge Maryellen Noreika] will give him.”
Regarding Hunter Biden’s upcoming trial on tax charges in Los Angeles, prosecutors claim he engaged in a four-year scheme to avoid paying $1.4 million in taxes. The case has been delayed until September 5, and if convicted, it could have more significant implications due to the criminal history he would develop.
Whitaker expressed particular interest in the tax case, citing its potential impact on the Biden family’s corruption narrative.
