Matthew Whitaker told Newsmax that Hunter could face prison time for tax conviction

Matthew Whitaker, acting Attorney General in the Trump administration, discussed with Newsmax the severity of the federal tax case against Hunter Biden. He mentioned that if convicted, Hunter Biden faces a more serious threat of prison time compared to his recent conviction for violating federal gun charges.

A jury in Wilmington, Delaware, found President Joe Biden’s son guilty of all three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018. Hunter Biden faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine. Despite having no prior convictions, the sentencing guidelines still apply under U.S. law, and Whitaker predicts a potential sentence of zero to six months or probation for Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden’s tax trial was scheduled in Los Angeles, but it was recently delayed until Sept. 5. He is charged with nine felony and misdemeanor tax offenses amounting to $1.4 million owed to the IRS. Prosecutors claim it was a four-year scheme to avoid paying taxes and fund an extravagant lifestyle that included drugs and alcohol. Hunter Biden has since repaid the back taxes.

Whitaker expressed interest in the tax case, highlighting its importance in the Biden corruption narrative. He pointed out that a conviction in the tax case would make Hunter Biden a convicted felon, significantly impacting his penalties due to a criminal history.
