McConnell Leads Republican Party in Push for Action Against Iran

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is putting pressure on President Joe Biden to come up with a military response to Iran after U.S. Central Command said Sunday that three American soldiers were killed and 25 were injured in a drone strike in Jordan.

According to President Joe Biden, the attack “was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

“Our enemies are emboldened,” McConnell wrote in a statement. “And they will remain so until the United States imposes serious, crippling costs — not only on front-line terrorist proxies, but on their Iranian sponsors who wear American blood as a badge of honor.”

Other Republican senators echoed McConnell’s position.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who has spoken out against Iran since the Oct. 7 attack, called on the Biden administration to “strike targets of significance inside Iran.”

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, posted Sunday on X to “Target Tehran.”
