Meadows Asserts Position in Hearing to Transfer Georgia Case to Federal Court
Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows appeared in court in Atlanta to determine whether he should be allowed to fight the Georgia indictment against him in federal court rather than state court. Meadows, along with former President Donald Trump and 17 others, has been charged with participating in an illegal scheme to overturn the 2020 election. During the hearing, Meadows denied performing certain acts listed in the indictment and argued that his actions were part of his official duties and not criminal. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis alleges that Meadows and others conspired to keep Trump in power after his election loss. Meadows’ lawyers are seeking to dismiss the charges and move the case to federal court. Both sides presented their arguments to the judge, who will make a decision at a later date.
