Meadows Calls for Georgia Charges to be Transferred to Federal Court
Mark Meadows, former Chief of Staff to Donald Trump, has requested that his indictment in Fulton County, Georgia, be moved to a federal court. Meadows is one of 17 allies of Trump who were charged with conspiring to overturn the 2020 election. His lawyers argue that the charges against him give rise to a federal defense based on his role as Chief of Staff. Meadows is facing two counts, including alleged racketeering and solicitation of an official to violate their oath of office. His legal team denies his involvement in Trump’s controversial phone call with Georgia Attorney General Brad Raffensperger. Meadows also claims he has legal immunity under the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution.
