Members of the N.Y. Reparations Panel Assert Bold Statements
Members of New York’s Reparations and Racial Justice Commission, Ron Daniels and Lurie Daniel Favors, have been featured in the New York Post for their outspoken comments on several controversial issues.
Daniels, an experienced activist who ran for president in 1992 with the Peace and Freedom Party, made a statement in an October 2021 tweet, “White Folks Messed Up the Weather = Black Folks Save the Planet.”
Not stopping there, Daniels, a member of the panel appointed by state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, referred to Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., as “Uncle Tim,” implying that the senator’s actions perpetuate white supremacy.
In addition to criticizing domestic affairs, Daniels also shared strong opinions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating, “There will never be peace in Israel until the Palestinians have a home.”
Favors, also appointed by Heastie and serving as the executive director of the Center for Law and Social Justice at City University of New York’s Medgar Evers College, supported the defund the police movement.
“Police all across the country are proving *daily* why #DefundThePolice is necessary. I’m old enough to remember when some claimed activists were going too far…” Favors wrote in an April 2021 tweet.
