Migrants Express Their Opposition to Trump
Migrants who are coming to the United States are now rushing to enter the country before November because they fear that President Joe Biden may lose his reelection bid to former President Donald Trump, who has promised to close the border.
Two Colombian brothers, Ricardo (20) and Sebastian (18), shared their story with the New York Post after crossing the border in Arizona last week.
“We believe it will be more difficult with the elections,” said Ricardo in an interview with the outlet.
Sebastian added, “We do not want Trump.”
The brothers sought asylum after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, citing threats from criminals in their home country of Colombia. Border Patrol agents in Yuma, Arizona, detained them and later released them to the Yuma Regional Center for Border Health, where they were scheduled to have asylum hearings in October.
A local nonprofit organization provided assistance to the siblings while they waited for a bus to the Phoenix airport, as reported by the Post. They eventually boarded a flight to New Jersey.
During their time at the aid group, the brothers spoke with their mother over the phone, who was eagerly awaiting their arrival in New Jersey.
Recent reports from The Wall Street Journal suggest that Trump allies are preparing for a potential mass deportation effort if he wins a second term in the White House. Trump has mentioned using the military and local law enforcement to deport a significant number of migrants.
Since Biden took office in January 2021, nearly 7 million foreign nationals have entered the U.S. illegally, with about 1.7 million evading apprehension.
The Biden administration has allowed approximately 600,000 migrants to enter through the CBP One phone app entry program and an additional 400,000 through the parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans flying directly to the U.S.
A majority of Americans, 56%, disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration and border security, according to recent polls.
In an effort to curb illegal immigration leading up to the November elections, the Biden administration announced an expedited immigration court process for certain migrants heading to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City.
Furthermore, the administration is considering an executive order to close the border once the daily influx of migrants reaches 4,000.
