Mike Huckabee Endorses Trump: ‘He Exceeded My Expectations’

Despite some speculation Arkansas GOP Gov. Sarah Sanders might weigh a 2024 presidential campaign, her father appeared to squash that this weekend, issuing a resounding endorsement once again for former President Donald Trump, who “exceeded expectations.”

“Maybe there are other conservative candidates for president who would do well, but who else could take and endure the relentless hate that he has faced and the never-ending persecutions and prosecutions of the demonic deep state,” former Arkansas GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee said in his monologue on his self-titled show “Huckabee,” which airs Sunday nights on Newsmax at 8 p.m. ET.

“Hey, Donald Trump is far from perfect, but then so am I, and so are you. But I love my country, and I don’t want it to be in second place or third place. I want it to be first, and I’ll put up with a personality that can, maybe at times be vain and vulgar.

“But I’ll do it to make America great again and that’s why I will support him again for president.”

Huckabee was a 2016 GOP primary candidate himself before he bowed out and endorsed Trump for the first time.

“Donald Trump was my second choice for president in 2016 – second choice – because my first choice was me, folks!” Huckabee’s 6:30-minute monologue began. “Just so you know, OK. But, when I didn’t make it, I endorsed, supported, and campaigned for Donald Trump.

“As president, he exceeded my expectations in implementing the America first policies, and they were long overdue to truly make America great again. I surprised most of my friends and even some of my enemies and supporting Donald Trump.”

Huckabee admitted he did not like everything about Trump, but voting for a president is not like supporting a pastor, he continued.

“He often said things that were cringeworthy, and some of the labels he affixed to political opponents and the media were harsh — if not accurate, and incredibly funny,” he continued. “OK, I didn’t like all of his tweets or his comments from the podium.

“Voting for a president, it’s not like being put on a church pulpit committee and hiring a pastor,” he continued. “Ideally, I’d love to have people in office who share not only my political views, but also my personal views and my personality.”

But, Huckabee said, “I select people to work for me who were the best at what they’re hired to do.”

Other worthy GOP primary candidates will come up, but Trump has already done it.

“You know they’re going to be some very fine people running for president in 2024 – and they’re going to be some who could prove to be as worthless as a milk bucket under a bull,” he said. “But just to be clear, I will again personally support President Trump, so he can finish what he started during his first term.

“You see? I believe he accomplished more to make America great again than any president in my lifetime, and that goes back to Eisenhower.”

No. 1 on the list of Trump accomplishments, according to Huckabee, is steering the U.S. “away from the insanity of socialist economics.”

“They were presidents who were more articulate and had a more engaging sense of humor, such as Kennedy and Reagan,” he continued. “There were some who had great legislative savvy, such as Lyndon Johnson. Some are truly decent and kind human beings – Jimmy Carter, George Herbert Walker Bush.

“But no president, no president helped this country get steered away from the insanity of socialist economics and insane policies on energy, the military, and the proper role of the courts, as did Donald Trump. No one.

Among the other accomplishments hailed by Huckabee:

  • Tax reform.
  • Deregulation.
  • Affordable energy.
  • Energy independence.
  • Getting NATO to pair their fair share.
  • First president “since Ronald Reagan to not get us in a war.”
  • Improved pay and benefits of the U.S. military.
  • Re-enforced the military before it become “woke.”
  • “No president ever did more for religious liberty than Donald Trump did.”
  • Most pro-life president.
  • Moved U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem to recognize it as the “rightful capital of the Jewish state.”
  • Abraham Accords for peace in the Middle East.

Notably, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, his daughter and Trump’s former White House press secretary, had teased a potential family break from Trump in delivering the GOP response to President Joe Biden’s most recent State of the Union address.

“It is time for a new generation of Republican leadership,” she said, leading pundits to suggest it is a break from Trump or a precursor to her own 2024 presidential aspirations.
