Pence took to X on Wednesday to commend the president on a “strong Joint Address to Congress.”

“Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on a strong Joint Address to Congress last night,” Pence shared.

He further commended Trump for demonstrating “openness to continued negotiations with Ukraine,” as well as for his support of the U.S. Armed Forces and border security.

Pence expressed that it was “welcome news” regarding the apprehension of an individual Trump identified as a “top terrorist” linked to the 2021 Kabul International Airport bombing at Abbey Gate.

“There will be plenty of time for the debate between tariffs, tax cuts and spending but for now, well done Mr. President,” Pence remarked.

The former vice president had previously criticized Trump during the 2024 electoral campaign, stating that he could not “in good conscience” endorse Trump’s re-election.

The rift between Pence and Trump originated in 2021.

Pence expressed disappointment toward the 47th president following the January 6th U.S. Capitol incident, aligning himself more with Democrats, who accused Trump of inciting the protest after Trump voiced doubts about the 2020 election results, which declared former President Joe Biden the victor.

However, Trump had urged his supporters to “remain peaceful.”

Pence and Trump were seen engaging for the first time in years at the late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January. However, Pence’s wife declined to shake Trump’s hand at the event.

Pence later recounted the encounter in an interview, stating he approached the president, saying, “Congratulations, Mr. President,” to which Trump replied: “Thanks, Mike.”
