Missouri Governor’s Race Tightens According to Peak Insights Poll
A recent poll conducted by Peak Insights reveals a tight race for the Republican nomination for Governor of Missouri.
Current Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, son of former Governor John Ashcroft, is leading with 22% of the vote, closely followed by Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe at 20%.
State senator Bill Eigel is polling at 14%, with 42% of voters still undecided.
Interestingly, Ashcroft’s support has dropped significantly from 45% a year ago.
Peak Insights surveyed 400 likely primary election voters from May 15-18, with a margin of error of +/-5 percentage points.
The Republican primary is scheduled for August 6, as Governor Mike Parson is term-limited and cannot run for re-election.
On the Democratic side, Crystal Quade, the minority leader of the Missouri House of Representatives, is the leading candidate for the nomination.
The winner of the Republican primary is expected to have a strong chance of winning the election, with both the Cook Political Report and Inside Politics currently rating the race as solidly Republican.
