Reports indicate that the 82-year-old senator first stumbled down a few stairs while leaving the chamber after voting on the confirmation of Housing and Urban Development Secretary nominee Scott Turner.
Later that afternoon, McConnell (R-Ky.) fell again inside the chambers and was subsequently seen being wheeled around in a wheelchair.
In light of these incidents, many are advocating for term limits and are questioning McConnell’s capacity to serve. The former Senate Republican leader held his position from 2007 until 2025.
A spokesperson for McConnell stated to The Independent: “Senator McConnell is fine. The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not disrupt his regular work schedule.”
