Monmouth Poll: Biden’s Border Decision Fails to Boost Approval Ratings
According to a recent Monmouth University Poll released on Wednesday, President Joe Biden’s executive order on asylum claims has not had an impact on his overall approval rating.
Despite more people supporting than opposing his border announcement, Biden’s approval rating remains lower than the public’s perception of former President Donald Trump’s performance.
The poll revealed that 40% of Americans favor the order, while 27% oppose it, and 33% do not have an opinion. Support for the order is evenly spread across political parties, with 44% of Republicans, 40% of Democrats, and 38% of independents favoring it.
Additionally, public opinion on Biden’s border action was slightly higher compared to prior polls on immigration proposals from House Speaker Mike Johnson and a bipartisan group in the Senate. However, most Republicans feel that Biden’s action is not tough enough.
Despite a drop in job performance ratings for Biden compared to April, Trump’s ratings are also polarized between parties. Congress received a low job rating of 14% approve and 82% disapprove.
The Monmouth University Poll was conducted from June 6-10 among 1,106 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
