The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by Trump associates Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, has recently declared that it is on the lookout for a “very small number” of full-time positions.

While DOGE is not a formal governmental body, President-elect Donald Trump played a role in its founding, appointing Musk and Ramaswamy to jointly lead the organization.

The main focus is to identify inefficiencies and wasteful expenditures within the federal government.

“Together, these two remarkable individuals will help my Administration dismantle Government Bureaucracy, eliminate excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure Federal Agencies – which is crucial to the ‘Save America’ Movement,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, adding that it could become “‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time.”

Musk revealed that DOGE aims to save $2 trillion in government spending and eliminate unnecessary regulations that hinder economic advancement.

“We are recruiting for a very small number of full-time salaried HR, IT, and Finance positions. If you’re interested, please DM us with your resume and a few reasons why you want to be a part of DOGE,” the official DOGE X account tweeted in late December.

The organization followed up with another recruitment tweet, stating that it is also in search of “a very small number of full-time salaried Software Engineers and InfoSec Engineers. If interested, please DM a few points showcasing your exceptional skills, along with your cell phone number.”

In earlier comments, Elon seemed to suggest that DOGE employees might work voluntarily, mentioning: “This will be tedious work, make lots of enemies, & compensation is zero.”

However, this could imply he was referring to himself not paying workers, rather than the organization not compensating its employees. The salary ranges for the positions sought remain unspecified. It is also not clear if DOGE employees will be funded by taxpayer money, private contributions, or financially supported by Musk and Ramaswamy personally.

Musk and Ramaswamy mentioned that they plan to only evaluate the top 1% of candidates, looking for “super high-IQ” individuals after reportedly receiving thousands of applications.

“We appreciate the thousands of Americans who have shown interest in assisting us at DOGE. We don’t require additional part-time idea providers. We need super high-IQ small-government advocates willing to dedicate 80+ hours per week to cumbersome cost-cutting tasks. If that describes you, DM this account with your CV. Elon & Vivek will review the top 1% of candidates,” DOGE stated in December.

Furthermore, Musk and Ramaswamy expressed that DOGE specifically intends to audit the Pentagon, eliminate redundant federal agencies, simplify the increasingly complex U.S. tax code, and uncover billions in fraudulent activities, among other goals.
