Following a request from the hip-hop mogul’s attorney to reveal the identity of the “mystery” woman, a judge in New York has permitted her to keep her name confidential for now.

The woman claims that Jay-Z assaulted her when she was just 13 years old, nearly a quarter-century ago.
In a new ruling, Judge Analisa Torres reprimanded Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, for being argumentative and for trying to hasten the legal proceedings. This occurred after he repeatedly urged the court to dismiss the victim’s request for anonymity and to throw out the serious lawsuit against Jay-Z, whose true name is Shawn Carter.
“The constant filing of contentious motions filled with inflammatory language and personal attacks by Carter’s attorney is inappropriate and a misuse of judicial resources, which is unlikely to benefit his client,” Torres stated in her five-page ruling.
“The Court will not expedite the judicial process simply because counsel insists on it,” the judge emphasized. “In this case, the balance of the factors favors the Plaintiff’s request to remain anonymous, at least at this stage of the litigation.”
The serious lawsuit, initiated earlier this month in the Southern District of New York, alleges that the woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” accuses Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and raping her at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City.
She claims that when she tried to enter the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall in September 2000, a limo driver for Combs offered her an invitation to an after-party, noting her youthful look. Upon arrival at the after-party, she alleges she was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA).
Court documents indicate that the alleged victim asserts Combs and Carter assaulted her at a party fueled by drugs, while an unnamed “female celebrity” observed, after she became severely intoxicated from having just one drink.
Jay-Z has vehemently denied these allegations and condemned both the alleged victim and her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, asserting that they are making false claims after she struggled to recall certain aspects of the incident.
Subsequently, Spiro—who is also representing NYC Mayor Eric Adams—has filed motions asking the court to dismiss the assertions and reveal the identity of the accuser, arguing that the lawsuit is fraught with legal inconsistencies.
Along with denying the rape allegations, Sean “Diddy” Combs has pleaded not guilty to federal charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, following his arrest in September. The founder of Bad Boy Entertainment is currently incarcerated in a federal facility in Brooklyn, with his trial scheduled to begin in May 2025.
