The National Police Association (NPA) announced its endorsement on Friday of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI director, Kash Patel. The association commended Patel’s track record of “transparency” and “accountability,” claiming he is well-qualified to lead the FBI.

In a statement released on Friday, the NPA, which represents over 240,000 law enforcement officers in the U.S., highlighted Patel’s “distinguished career” that includes his roles as a former federal prosecutor and legal liaison to the Joint Special Operations Command.
“The law enforcement community understands that strong leadership at the FBI is crucial for fostering public trust and improving coordination at all levels of policing,” the group stated. “Kash Patel’s established record of leadership, expertise in counterterrorism and intelligence, and capability in managing complex legal and operational challenges make him the perfect candidate to restore confidence in the FBI’s mission and ensure it serves as a reliable partner to our nation’s police forces.”
“We are optimistic that under his leadership, the FBI will excel in its essential duty to protect and serve the American public,” they added.
Patel is a trusted ally of the President-elect and has served previously in the Trump administration as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism.
Recently, Trump declared his intention to remove FBI Director Christopher Wray and nominate Patel for the position. Wray has the option to resign voluntarily before Trump’s inauguration, though he has not yet indicated his plans.
“This FBI will put an end to the rising crime wave in America, dismantle migrant criminal gangs, and combat the vile issues of human and drug trafficking at the border,” Trump stated in a Truth Social post announcing his nomination of Patel.
However, it’s important to note that FBI directors serve 10-year terms, allowing them to usually operate without the direct influence of a sitting president.
This development follows Trump’s prior decision to appoint Wray during his first presidency, after firing then-FBI Director James Comey less than four years into his term. At that time, Trump described Wray as a “fierce guardian of the law and a model of integrity.”
Furthermore, the NPA remarked that Patel’s appointment would signify a “critical moment for law enforcement and public safety nationwide.”
His leadership “will refocus efforts on collaboration, ethical practices, and the unwavering pursuit of justice,” they emphasized.
