In a letter addressed to Senate Judiciary leaders on Monday, National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) President Kieran Donahue lauded Patel’s credentials to Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who serve as the chair and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He underscored Patel’s background as a public defender in Florida’s Miami-Dade region, his experience as a federal prosecutor, and his role as national security adviser and senior counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence during Trump’s initial term.
Donahue also emphasized Patel’s dedication to transparency and his intention to collaborate closely with local law enforcement to address intricate criminal challenges.
“Mr. Patel’s service will undoubtedly prioritize the restoration of confidence within the Bureau through enhanced transparency, integrity, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. He assured the NSA – if confirmed – of his unwavering dedication to working in close partnership with local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement at both the rank-and-file and leadership levels. His pledge to mutual access and advice is critical to tackling the pressing security and policing issues we face. We are confident that Mr. Patel’s engagement will yield essential and effective partnerships nationwide to safeguard communities of all sizes,” Donahue stated.
Moreover, the letter took aim at the policies of the Biden Administration, arguing that they have undermined law enforcement and border security, inadvertently fostering more opportunities for organized crime.
The letter urged the Senate to expedite Patel’s confirmation process.
