Nearly 50,000 Wisconsin Voters Opt for ‘Uninstructed’ instead of Biden
Approximately 50,000 voters in Wisconsin’s Democratic primary on Tuesday opted for an “uninstructed” delegation as a protest against President Joe Biden’s handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The 48,000 votes made up about 8% of the total outcome, surpassing the number of “uninstructed” votes in 2020 and exceeding the margin between Biden and former President Donald Trump in the general election, as reported by The Hill.
In contrast, only 2% of Republican voters in the Wisconsin primary chose the “uninstructed” option.
Listen to Wisconsin, an activist group, expressed their satisfaction with the performance, stating, “We had three weeks to pull off a presidential primary election. Lots of tiring days and sleepless nights. But we would do it over again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Wisconsin for making your voices heard today!”
In other states, protest votes have resulted in a total of 26 delegates, with Washington, Minnesota, and Michigan showing strong support. However, in Wisconsin, the “uninstructed” option did not win any delegates as it did not meet the 15% support threshold.
The movement’s organizers aimed for 20,000 votes, so the 48,000 votes cast more than doubled their target.
Critics are urging Biden to support a complete ceasefire in Gaza, which he has so far refused to do, and his criticism of Israeli military actions has grown.
Progressive commentator Nina Turner praised the vote on social media, urging Biden to consider if loyalty to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is worth potentially losing the election in November.
The Biden administration is pressuring Israel on civilian casualties and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The United Nations has warned of a looming famine in the region, with U.S. aid drops falling short of needs.
A planned pier in Gaza for aid delivery could take months, and there are currently no distribution plans for aid after the pier is completed, according to the State Department.
