New Advertisement Focuses on Trump Administration’s Family Separation Policy
The Biden campaign is set to launch a digital ad targeting Latino voters, reminding them of former President Donald Trump’s family separation policy at the border, which led to nearly 4,000 children being taken from their parents, as reported by Axios.
The ad, titled Ripped Apart, combines footage of Trump’s anti-immigrant remarks with the heartbreaking cries of children who were separated from their families.
With immigration being a key issue in this election, the ad emphasizes Biden’s efforts to reunite families that were torn apart.
Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez stated, “If Trump is re-elected, the chaos and cruelty we saw in his first term will only escalate. He will continue to attack and demonize immigrants, without addressing the real issues in our broken immigration system.”
The family separation policy, officially announced six years ago, was a pivotal moment in the Trump administration that swayed public opinion against him. Trump later reversed the policy after a month.
Under the “zero tolerance” policy enforced by border authorities, adults crossing the border illegally were subject to criminal prosecution. This led to children being taken into government custody and, due to inadequate tracking systems, many were separated from their parents for extended periods.
Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt claimed that Biden’s reversal of Trump’s immigration policies has resulted in a crisis at the southern border, including increased rates of human trafficking.
