Newsmax: Hanson Says Left is ‘Oblivious’ to History and Orwell

In a Monday interview, Hoover Institution fellow Victor Davis Hanson told Newsmax that the left seems oblivious to history and the works of George Orwell.

Responding to a report on “The Chris Salcedo Show” of a Confederate statue in Arlington National Cemetery being removed, Hanson says the left has nothing “other than absolutes.”

“Everybody’s either bad or good,” Hanson adds. “The Civil War was a tragedy that took 700,000 lives to destroy slavery. But not every single person who put on a Confederate uniform was evil. I mean, there was all sorts of gradations. 95% of the people who fought for the Confederacy … which I think was a misguided cause, did not own slaves and … they were injured by slavery.

“And the second thing is the left is never reciprocal. We don’t say on the conservative side, ‘Well, we’re gonna tear down every statue of FDR because he put Japanese Americans in concentration camps in World War II.’ … These people are like the Taliban, who destroyed the Great Buddha statues about 20 years ago. So it’s not a good pedigree for the left to follow. It’s always in an Orwellian context that they seem to be oblivious or don’t care about.”
