California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his “disappointment” regarding President Joe Biden’s untruthfulness about not granting a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden.

In a conversation with Politico, Newsom (D-Calif.) acknowledged the desire to shield his son but emphasized that he had placed trust in the president’s assurances.
“Given all that the president and his family have endured, I fully comprehend the instinct to protect Hunter,” Newsom stated.
“However, I trusted the president’s word,” Newsom commented regarding Biden’s repeated pledges not to interfere in his son’s legal situations. “Thus, I am naturally disappointed and cannot endorse the decision.”
Despite Biden’s prior vows against granting a pardon, he issued one for Hunter on Sunday after Hunter pled guilty to federal tax offenses and faced federal gun charge convictions earlier this year.
The 46th president asserted that he pardoned his son because he believes Hunter was “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted” by his own Department of Justice.
In response, Special Counsel David Weiss countered President Biden’s assertions that Hunter Biden was unjustly targeted, urging the judge overseeing Hunter’s case to not dismiss the indictment, even in light of the presidential pardon.
