Nikki Haley tells Newsmax: I Can Win Without Trump Being Removed from the Ballots

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley, speaking to Newsmax from the campaign trail in Iowa, insisted that she will defeat former President Donald Trump “fair and square” and that she doesn’t “need anybody throwing him off the ballot to do that.”

“I think we need to be really careful,” the former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador said on “Newsline.” “The Supreme Court needs to respond very quickly on this before other states start to move forward.”

But still, Haley stood behind the comments that she’s made about how “chaos follows” Trump, whether it’s “rightly or wrongly.”

“Some of these cases have been incredibly political,” Haley said. “We’ve seen other cases where he can be his worst enemy and he gets himself in trouble.”

Still, he “absolutely should be on the ballot,” said Haley. “This is a door we never want to open because once you open the door, you can’t close it. We can’t have other people deciding for us who should and shouldn’t be on the ballot.”

Meanwhile, Haley said her goal is to finish strong in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, but added that “we won’t know what strong looks like until we see election day and see how the numbers fall out. But we feel really good. The momentum on the ground is good. People are excited. They’re ready to caucus. They’ve, you know, they’ve had enough of the TV commercials and the mailers and all that, that now they’re ready to go to the polls and make it happen.”

She added that while nobody knows how polls will pan out until election day, the polls are consistently showing a narrow margin between herself and Trump in New Hampshire

“The polls continue to show us that we are surging in Iowa and getting further and further into second place,” said Haley. “I think that you know, right now we’re in second in Iowa, Second New Hampshire, second in South Carolina. That’s a great place for us to be. We’ve got one more fellow to catch up to, and so we’re going to continue doing that.”

Haley further commented on an endorsement she got from “Judge Judy” Sheindlin, who said in a statement released Tuesday by Haley’s campaign that she is “proud” to endorse her “because she is whip-smart, has executive credentials, and was a superb governor,” reports The Hill.

“What I love is we’ve got people coming out that are voting for the first time that have not been politically active because they know that we need a new generational leader,” said Haley. “They know that we have to leave the negativity and baggage behind. They know that we’ve got to start working on solutions going forward. And so, yes, Judge Judy, a strong woman who says her piece. We’re excited to have her.”

She noted that she’s also gotten strong endorsements from people such as former Iowa Right to Life Director Marlys Popma, as well as endorsements from Iowa’s farmers, women, and “all types of people, and that’s what we want.”

Republicans, she added, “have lost the last seven out of eight popular votes for president. That’s nothing to be proud of. We should want to win the majority of Americans today. The only way we’re going to win the majority of Americans is we have to fight forward for a new generational leader today.”

Meanwhile, she reiterated that if she’s elected and Trump is found guilty of any criminal charges, she would pardon him “for the good of the country.”

“I think that when you talk about a pardon, you’re already assuming that he has been found guilty,” she said. “I think he’s still innocent until proven guilty. But I think what’s important is the last thing we need to see is an 80-year-old president sitting in jail. I think that further divides our country. So for the good of the country, I absolutely think that the right thing to do would be to pardon Donald Trump.”

Haley further said it keeps her “up at night” thinking about President Joe Biden winning reelection, as that will ultimately mean the potential of Vice President Kamala Harris one day becoming the nation’s commander-in-chief.

“I think what they’re trying to do is that Joe Biden is trying to hang in there until he can turn the reins over to Kamala Harris because they know Kamala Harris can’t win,” she said. “It should chill every American spine at the thought of a President Kamala Harris.”
