On Saturday, the NYPD unveiled photographs showing the suspect appearing to gaze directly at the camera while looking through a divider window in a taxi with a mask on.
Another released screengrab shows the suspect wearing a hoodie and a black down jacket as he strolls along the street.
Authorities reported that the suspect took a taxi from Central Park after the alleged crime, although they could not confirm if the images are from that specific trip.
Law enforcement has confirmed to the New York Post that the images were captured after Thompson’s death.
Thompson, 50, was ambushed while walking from his hotel to attend his company’s annual investor conference at a nearby Hilton Hotel in the early morning hours. According to the NYPD, evidence suggests that the assault was premeditated.
Post-incident, the suspect discarded a burner phone in an alley, as indicated by police sources speaking to FOX. Investigations are currently underway for fingerprints found on a water bottle, the burner phone, and the data within.
As reported by two law enforcement sources who contacted the media on Thursday, the masked shooter who stalked and killed the CEO had the words “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” written on his ammunition, mirroring a commonly utilized phrase by critics of the industry.
One official, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, noted that these phrases were inscribed with permanent marker.
The term “delay, deny, depose” is frequently referenced by attorneys and insurance critiques to summarize tactics aimed at evading payments on claims, highlighting a pattern of insurance companies postponing payments and rejecting claims. There has been growing criticism from both physicians and patients to health insurers like UnitedHealthcare for complicating the claims process or denying coverage for critical, life-saving care.
Law enforcement further confirmed to the press on Thursday night that the MASKED shooter, wanted for stalking and fatally shooting Brian Thompson, allegedly traveled by bus from Atlanta, Georgia to New York to execute the murder.
Authorities suspect that the assailant has since returned to Atlanta.
