Former First Lady Jill Biden conveyed her “disappointment” regarding former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s role in effectively halting President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, despite Pelosi claiming no involvement in the decision.

The First Lady’s remarks were featured in a The Washington Post article on Wednesday, where she expressed reflections on Pelosi’s influence during the 2024 election cycle.
“It’s been on my mind a lot lately,” she remarked. “We ‘were’ friends for 50 years.”
Biden had initially indicated his intent to run for reelection in 2024 but was compelled to withdraw after his Democratic allies publicly retracted their support. This led to his announcement to abandon his campaign on July 21st after previously affirming his commitment.
“Let’s just say I was disappointed with how it unfolded,” she added.
“I don’t know. I learned a lot about human nature,” the outgoing First Lady stated. “I think that’s all I will say.”
Pelosi (D-Calif.) is considered a principal architect behind the Democratic Party’s shift away from endorsing Biden as the presidential nominee following his poor debate performance against Trump last June, which highlighted significant concerns about his cognitive abilities.
For months, Democrats had insisted that Biden was mentally capable and prepared to serve another term.
Following Biden’s contentious debate performance, Pelosi appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” where she suggested that Biden should consider withdrawing, stating: “It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run.”
Reports indicate that Pelosi threatened to openly criticize Biden after he resisted calls to step aside, as suggested by the Daily Mail. Sources shared that Pelosi warned she would disclose unfavorable polling data illustrating Trump’s formidable lead, which ultimately influenced Biden’s decision to exit the race.
“A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races,” Biden remarked at the time.
“I was concerned that if I remained in the race, that would dominate the discussion — you’d be asking me about why Nancy Pelosi said [something] … and I perceived it as a genuine distraction,” he elaborated.
The Washington Post reported that Jill Biden confided in her close friend, Mary Doody, about the political pressures her husband faced to withdraw from the race.
“It was awful. It was mean. It was disrespectful,” Doody expressed. “She talked extensively about that. I’m biased, but Joe Biden did not deserve such treatment.”
Pelosi swiftly pivoted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee, bypassing an open primary process. This maneuver appeared hypocritical, given the Democratic Party’s self-identification as champions of “democracy,” while denying voters the opportunity to select a candidate.
The former Speaker of the House also criticized Biden for his initial reluctance to withdraw, stating in a November 8th article: “Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race.”
Jill Biden has subtly criticized Pelosi and Harris by opting for an all-red suit when voting on election day and seemingly mocking Harris’ “joy” campaign slogan in a recent speech.
The outgoing First Lady told conference attendees that they need to “feel, I don’t know, a little, a sense of joy. Because I think we all need like this, you know, we all need to feel joy now.”
Moreover, Biden has indicated that stepping down from the race was a mistake, believing he could have triumphed over Trump in the 2024 election.
“It’s presumptuous to assert that, but I believe yes,” Biden remarked, regarding his potential chances of winning.
