Orban from Hungary suggests Trump may withhold funds from Ukraine if elected.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that former President Donald Trump, if re-elected, will not provide financial assistance to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which he believes will lead to a quick end to the war.
Orban, a nationalist leader and supporter of Trump, met with him in Florida on Friday.
Referring to Trump, Orban said, “He will not give a penny into the Ukraine-Russia war and therefore the war will end.” He emphasized that Ukraine cannot sustain the conflict alone without assistance from the United States and Europe.
Orban has maintained economic ties with Russia and has not sent weapons to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022. Despite efforts by the European Union to isolate Russia, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in October in China.
The Hungarian Prime Minister expressed confidence that Trump’s approach would lead to peace in the region and a stable Europe. He highlighted the importance of achieving peace first before discussing next steps.
A statement from Trump’s campaign did not specifically address the Ukraine issue but mentioned discussions on border security and other shared concerns between the two leaders.
European leaders have expressed concerns about a potential decline in U.S. support for Ukraine and NATO under a second Trump presidency.
