Oversight Committee Divided over FBI Agent Interview
The House Oversight Committee is divided between Democrats and Republicans over the release of a closed-door interview transcript with an FBI agent regarding the Hunter Biden probe. Rep. Jamie Raskin, the panel’s ranking member, called for the transcript to be released, believing that it would discredit House Republicans’ claims of political interference in the investigation. Republicans, however, dismissed Raskin’s claim, stating that the transcript had already been emailed to Democratic staff the day after the interview. The GOP-led committee tweeted that the transcript is undergoing the normal review process and will be released once it is completed.
Last week, Rep. James Comer stated that the FBI agent confirmed critical portions of testimony from IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, which would contradict Raskin’s claims. Raskin, on the other hand, argued that the interview debunked the idea of political influence and explained that the FBI had to inform the Secret Service of its intent to interview Hunter Biden for the safety of the agents. Furthermore, Raskin questioned whether the “transition team” mentioned by Shapley and the FBI agent was actually Joe Biden’s presidential transition team. The division between Democrats and Republicans in the House Oversight Committee continues regarding the significance of the FBI agent’s interview in the Hunter Biden investigation.
