On Friday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced that both fires have been completely contained, following more than three weeks since they ignited.

A fire being 100% contained means it is controlled, but not necessarily extinguished.

Starting on January 7th, these fires ravaged numerous neighborhoods as strong winds accelerated the flames.

The Palisades Fire, which has consumed 23,448 acres, resulted in at least 12 fatalities, originating in the Pacific Palisades area and damaging or destroying around 8,000 homes, businesses, and other buildings.

In the Eaton Fire, at least 17 lives have been lost, with the blaze spreading over 14,000 acres. It erupted near Altadena and has caused significant damage to more than 10,000 homes and various structures.

Investigations into the origins of both fires are currently underway.
