Pete King praises Speaker for leadership and bravery on vote, says Newsmax
House Speaker Mike Johnson demonstrated leadership and courage by advocating for a series of foreign aid bills, especially aid for Ukraine, despite facing potential political consequences such as threats to remove him from office, former Rep. Pete King stated on Newsmax Sunday.
“I strongly supported these bills, particularly the aid to Ukraine, because it’s aid for America,” said the New York Republican during an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” with former Georgia GOP Rep. Jack Kingston. “It’s a critical vote for American foreign policy to safeguard American lives and jobs.”
Although Johnson, R-La., may face temporary backlash for his bipartisan efforts that led to the bills’ passage by large margins, King believes that in the long run, he made the right decision.
While one part of the legislation, which focused on border security, did not pass, Kingston suggested that immigration has become a divisive issue between political parties.
Kingston noted the shift in the immigration debate over the years, from bipartisan support for border security measures to a partisan battle between Biden and Trump. The lack of bipartisan cooperation has made passing border legislation challenging.
