Peter Schweizer tells Newsmax that the TikTok Law is not about freedom of speech
The call for TikTok to distance itself from its Chinese connections is not about free speech but a sensible move, investigative author Peter Schweizer told Newsmax on Sunday.
Schweizer, author of “Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans,” explained that Chinese-backed companies cannot be allowed to control media outlets.
Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, is closely aligned with the Chinese state, conducting joint research with the Ministry of State Security, China’s intelligence agency, on artificial intelligence, Schweizer added.
Chinese military and propaganda officials view TikTok as a “Trojan Horse” used to influence young Westerners, according to Schweizer.
He emphasized that the request for ByteDance to sell TikTok is not a seizure but rather a measure to prevent Chinese ownership of a media company.
Schweizer also addressed concerns about a potential buyout by Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg. He said that such a move would likely not be approved due to antitrust concerns, as Zuckerberg already controls major social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
