On the Thursday preceding Valentine’s Day, the officer, disguised as a plush capybara, appeared on the street alongside two policewomen presenting “gifts.”
In Peru, it is a common practice for individuals to don costumes like teddy bears and other characters to distribute gifts on festive occasions.
Authorities reported that the character successfully coaxed the suspect out of his residence, leading to a swift arrest.
Colonel Pedro Rojas, head of the Peruvian Police’s “Green Squadron,” who led the operation, stated that authorities later searched the premises and found a significant amount of cocaine and marijuana.
“On this occasion, Valentine’s Day, a day for lovers, we wanted to camouflage ourselves with the character of the capybara,” he explained.
This was not the first instance of officers from the squadron using disguises to apprehend suspected drug traffickers.
Previously, they have dressed as Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow during drug raids. In December 2024, an undercover officer dressed as Santa Claus led to the arrest of two suspects selling cocaine and marijuana from a residence in Lima.
