The NYPD has shared a new image of the suspect, captured in a hoodie at the Starbucks located at West 56th Street and 6th Avenue, in close proximity to the Hilton hotel where the tragic incident occurred.

The investigation is actively continuing, with the NYPD offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the suspect’s capture.

8:10 AM: The unidentified assailant who shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown hotel may have inscribed a message on the bullets utilized in his attack, according to various police reports.

Investigators are looking into a puzzling message that reportedly includes the words “deny,” “depose,” and “defend,” which were found engraved on the live rounds and shell casings left at the scene after Thompson was shot multiple times.

These phrases closely resemble the title of a 2010 book critiquing the insurance industry, where Thompson was a prominent figure.

Delay, Deny, Defend” — one of the three words apparently left behind — carries the sub-title: “Why insurance companies don’t pay claims and what you can do about it.”

According to reports from police, three live 9-millimeter rounds and three fired casings were recovered in front of the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan, where Thompson was scheduled to host an investors conference that same morning.

It was noted by several sources that each piece of evidence contained a single word, suggesting the shooter intended to leave a message as investigators work to discern a motive.

The assailant employed a silencer and appeared to be highly skilled based on surveillance footage that has circulated widely on social media.

Footage captured the shooter waiting outside the luxury hotel for his target, the CEO earning an annual salary of approximately $9.9 million, before he unleashed multiple shots at close range, resulting in Thompson collapsing.

Although the gun initially jammed, the calculated shooter successfully cleared it and continued firing as Thompson attempted to crawl away in desperation, according to the sources and video footage.

The shooter then fled into an alley and rode away on an e-bike, heading north along Sixth Avenue into Central Park, where police indicated surveillance camera coverage is limited.

Despite managing to escape, the suspect left various clues that could assist investigators in identifying him.

Prior to the shooting, he purchased coffee, a water bottle, and two PowerBars at the nearby Starbucks, discarding his bottle and coffee cup in a trash receptacle, which police retrieved for evidence.

Additionally, a phone believed to belong to the perpetrator was found in an alley near the Hilton. Investigators have acquired a search warrant to examine the phone’s contents.

This newly discovered evidence could provide vital insights into the motive behind the calculated assassination.

“Based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear that the victim was specifically targeted,” stated NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny during a previous press conference. “At this stage, the rationale remains unclear. This does not seem to be a random act of violence.”

Thompson held a significant position leading the nation’s largest private health provider, which has been criticized for its history of denying claims and is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice for antitrust violations.

Following the shooting, Thompson was rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m., according to police.

Paulette “Pauley” Thompson, 51, Thompson’s wife, indicated that the family had received threats prior to her husband’s murder.

“There had been some threats,” she revealed to NBC News. “Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know the specifics. I just know that he mentioned receiving threats from some individuals.”

Thompson was a respected figure in his industry, a devoted husband and father of two boys residing in Minnesota.

A manhunt for the suspect is currently underway, with the NYPD offering a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest.
