Poll: China Surpasses US as Most Influential Global Power in Africa
According to a recent Gallup survey, China has emerged as the most influential global power in Africa, surpassing the U.S.
The survey compared the perceptions of the U.S., China, Russia, and Germany in Africa. While the image of the U.S. did not improve in 2023, China’s approval rating increased from 52% in 2022 to 58% in 2023, putting it ahead of the U.S.
Germany also saw improvement in its leadership image, rising from 51% to 54%. On the other hand, only 42% of respondents rated Russia’s leadership favorably.
In its report, Gallup highlighted the shifting dynamics between the U.S. and China in Africa, citing geopolitical issues and competition for resources as key factors.
The survey analyzed approval ratings in over 130 countries, with a margin of error ranging from 1.2-5.6 percentage points.
