Poll Finds Majority of Voters in Favor of Texas’ Floating Barriers
According to a new poll conducted by TIPP Insights for the Daily Mail, a majority of Americans support the floating barriers along the Rio Grande put in place by Texas. The poll found that 51% of voters support the 1,000-foot barrier, while only 35% disagree and 15% are unsure. The results were even more significant when broken down, with 28% strongly supporting the buoys and 23% somewhat supporting them. The article also noted that older people and those in the Northeast and Midwest were more supportive of the barriers.
The survey was conducted among 1,369 US adults from August 2-4 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points. The poll results come amidst accusations from Democrats and the mainstream media that the barriers are illegal and intended to harm or kill migrants.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has defended the buoys, stating that they are part of the state’s Operation Lone Star policy. He highlighted the danger of crossing the Rio Grande illegally and argued that open-border policies encourage migrants to risk their lives. The barriers have gained renewed attention after a dead body was discovered between one of the buoys last week, with the Mexican government condemning the structure.
