Poll Shows GOP Voters Motivated by Laken Riley’s Murder

Concerns about illegal immigration and border security have been heightened among Republican voters, especially after the tragic murder of University of Georgia student Laken Riley. This incident has reinforced the belief that down-ballot Republicans need to take a hard-line stance on border closure, according to recent polling.

A poll conducted by the Tyson Group revealed that 81% of likely GOP primary voters prioritize illegal immigration when selecting their primary candidate. Additionally, 75% of voters are less inclined to support candidates who are not firm on enforcing immigration laws, as per the latest poll shared with Newsmax.

When asked about elected officials passing laws that hinder local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE, only 22% of likely GOP primary voters expressed more support for leniency towards illegal migrants.

Former President Donald Trump has consistently criticized President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies, attributing them to a rise in crime committed by illegal immigrants.

The poll also highlighted that 80% of likely GOP primary voters oppose states providing healthcare subsidies for illegal immigrants. Furthermore, 75% are less likely to vote for candidates who endorse laws that expand healthcare coverage for illegal migrants.

Virginia and Mississippi are currently working on legislation (SB 119, SB 2145, respectively) to increase healthcare access for illegals.

The survey was conducted following the tragic death of 22-year-old Riley at the hands of illegal migrant Jose Ibarra, who had been previously arrested multiple times and ignored ICE warnings.

The Tyson Group surveyed 607 self-identified likely Republican primary voters from February 29 to March 1, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
