Pollster John McLaughlin Tells Newsmax: Trump’s Support Is Growing

Pollsters and siblings Jim McLaughlin and John McLaughlin, who are part of the Trump campaign team, revealed to Newsmax on Monday that the prospects for the 2024 election are looking favorable for the former president. Trump is closing in on President Joe Biden in various key blue states.

The surge in Donald Trump’s popularity in blue states was evident at his rally in Wildwood, New Jersey on Saturday night, where an estimated crowd of 100,000 turned up.

Jim McLaughlin commented on the rally, saying, “That event was simply amazing. People were expecting around 40,000 to 50,000 attendees, which would have been remarkable, but I’ve received reports that there were well over 100,000 people present. It was unlike anything they had ever seen before. It’s a must-visit experience. It’s a blend of a rock concert, a carnival, and a southern football game. The best part is the people in attendance.”

An Emerson College poll released on April 2 showed Trump trailing Biden by 5.3 percentage points in a head-to-head matchup and when including other independent candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In New Jersey, Biden won by 15.9 percentage points in 2020 while Trump lost by 14.2 percentage points to Hillary Clinton in 2016. The last Republican candidate to carry New Jersey was George H.W. Bush in 1988.

John McLauglin referenced a Siena College poll from April 22, which showed Trump trailing Biden by just 10 percentage points in New York, without Kennedy in the race. The poll was biased towards Democrats, with only 22% of respondents identifying as registered Republicans. Trump lost New York by over 23 percentage points in both 2020 and 2016. The last GOP candidate to win New York was Ronald Reagan in 1984.

“There seems to be a shift happening,” John McLaughlin noted. “We already have polls indicating that Trump is ahead in Minnesota and within 3 points in Virginia. The map is expanding for Donald Trump.”
