Pollster Soltis Anderson: Indictments ‘Strengthened’ Support for Trump

A Republican pollster believes that former President Donald Trump has a strong chance of winning the 2024 general election. This is not only because of his loyal base, but also because President Joe Biden is seen as “enormously destructive and eminently beatable.” The support for Trump among Republicans has not been shaken by the criminal indictments against him; if anything, it has galvanized them. Despite losing in 2020 and the disappointing 2022 midterm elections, many Republicans are confident that Trump, or any Republican candidate, would easily defeat Biden in 2024. The more Biden and anti-Trump media try to discredit Trump, the more voters refuse to turn away from him. The indictments against Trump have actually helped him sink his primary rivals, and he has regained and expanded his lead. Republicans deeply fear a loss in 2024 but also cannot imagine it happening. Republican voters do not believe that Trump is a surefire loser and think he is their safest bet.
