Pope Francis has made his first public appearance after his hospital release.

On Sunday, Francis appeared briefly at the conclusion of Mass in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
“Good Sunday to everyone,” said Francis. “Thank you so much.”
The Vatican also shared a written message from Francis after Mass, which centered on healthcare workers.
“I ask the Lord that this touch of his love might reach all those who suffer and encourage those who are caring for them,” read the text.
Pope Francis was released from the hospital on March 23rd after a 38-day stay due to double pneumonia.
Doctors at Gemelli Hospital in Rome revealed they briefly considered halting treatment due to his health status.
Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the medical director, described a critical moment on February 28th when the 88-year-old pope experienced a severe coughing fit that led to inhaling vomit, necessitating airway clearance and the use of a non-invasive mechanical breathing mask.
“For the first time, I saw tears in the eyes of those surrounding him. They truly love him, as one would a father. We all recognized that his condition had deteriorated further, and there was a significant risk he might not survive,” Alfieri told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
“We had to decide whether to cease treatment and let him go or continue pushing with all available medications and therapies, knowing the risk of causing harm to other organs. Ultimately, we chose to pursue the latter option,” he added.
