Rep. Ayanna Pressley criticized GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for comparing her and anti-racist author Ibram X. Kendi to the “modern KKK” for evaluating people based on their character rather than their skin color. Pressley called Ramaswamy’s comments offensive and dangerous, pointing to recent incidents of white supremacist violence. Ramaswamy stood by his remarks and said he wanted to spark a discussion about the new culture of anti-racism, which he believes is disguised racism. Attention around Ramaswamy’s comments resurfaced after he quoted from Kendi’s book at a rally. Kendi responded by saying that the modern KKK hates him and supports Donald Trump.
