Previous Chair Encourages RNC to Prioritize Swing States for 2024
Reince Priebus, the former RNC Chair, has highlighted the importance of the Republican National Committee focusing on three key swing states for the upcoming 2024 general election, as reported by The Hill.
During a recent segment on Fox News, Priebus outlined his recommendations, describing them as “pretty simple stuff.”
“Firstly, the committee needs to raise around $40 million within the next 60 days,” Priebus stated. “Secondly, they should deploy about 5,000 paid workers in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, who will focus on early voting, absentee ballots, and use data-driven strategies.”
This call for a strategic approach comes at a time when there have been significant changes within the RNC. Earlier this week, former President Trump was confirmed as the likely nominee for the Republican Party, coinciding with a restructuring of the committee.
Michael Whatley was elected as the new chair, with Lara Trump appointed as co-chair. However, this reorganization also led to the elimination of over 60 positions.
Concerns about financial stability within the party persist, particularly in terms of funding allocation for Trump’s reelection campaign and GOP congressional races.
Lara Trump’s previous statement about using RNC resources solely for her father-in-law’s reelection bid further underscores these financial uncertainties.
In addition, legal challenges faced by Trump, including substantial fines and felony charges, pose further complications. The question of whether the RNC will cover Trump’s legal expenses remains unanswered.
Priebus emphasized the immediate need for the RNC to invest in key battleground states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These states played crucial roles in President Biden’s victory in 2020 by shifting from red to blue.
While other issues like challenging mail-in voting and monitoring court cases can be addressed later, Priebus stressed the importance of focusing efforts on fundraising and the identified swing states.
