Prosecutor Fani Willis refuses to back down: ‘The Train Is Approaching’
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis stated on Saturday that the prosecution of Donald Trump for election interference has not been delayed by the proceedings regarding her romantic relationship with a special prosecutor she hired for the case.
In an interview with CNN, Willis said, “I don’t feel like we have been slowed down at all. I think there are efforts to slow down the train, but the train is coming.”
These comments come as defense attorneys continue to raise concerns about her handling of the prosecution against Trump. The former president faces four felony indictments related to his actions following the 2020 election. He has tried to delay and dismiss the cases, claiming he is being unfairly targeted by political opponents.
Willis made these remarks shortly after a Georgia judge granted Trump’s codefendants the ability to appeal a ruling allowing her to remain on the case despite the special prosecutor’s withdrawal. This may lead to further allegations about the relationship between the prosecutor and Willis.
While defense attorneys have accused Willis of hiring the special prosecutor for personal gain due to their romantic involvement, Judge Scott McAfee found insufficient evidence to support these claims but criticized Willis for a “tremendous lapse in judgment.”
Speaking to CNN, Willis defended herself, stating that she does not feel the need to restore her reputation and does not find her actions embarrassing.
Law professor Anthony Michael Kreis criticized Willis’ comments, suggesting that she should avoid speaking to the media at this time.
