Prosecutor in Trump Trial Contributed to Biden’s Campaign
The prosecutor questioning adult film star Stormy Daniels in former President Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial has donated to Democrats, including President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Susan Hoffinger of the Manhattan district attorney’s office donated $500 to the Biden campaign in 2020, as reported by the New York Post.
In the 2020 election cycle, Hoffinger also contributed over $900 to ActBlue, a fundraising platform used by many Democratic politicians and liberal organizations.
According to FEC filings, Hoffinger has donated exclusively to Democrats since 2004, with her first contributions going to John Kerry, the party’s presidential nominee at the time.
It is known that the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, overseeing the trial, has ties to Democrat fundraising, as reported by Newsmax.
Stormy Daniels testified about a sexual encounter with Trump, claiming she was paid off to keep silent during the presidential race a decade later. Trump’s defense attorney requested a mistrial, but the judge denied it, citing insufficient grounds.
Another prosecutor involved in the case, senior counsel Matthew Colangelo, donated to Barack Obama and was paid by the Democratic National Committee in 2018. House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan has raised concerns about possible coordination between the Justice Department and the Manhattan D.A.’s office in the “politicized prosecution” of Trump.
Trump faces 34 felony counts related to hush-money payments to Daniels and has pleaded not guilty.
