Prosecutors in N.Y. Trial of Trump Gear Up to Present Last Witnesses

Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in court on Friday following Stormy Daniels’ explicit testimony about their alleged sexual encounter. Prosecutors are getting ready to call their final witnesses in the unprecedented trial of a sitting or former U.S. President.

During her testimony in a New York state criminal court in Manhattan, Daniels provided extensive details about her encounter with Trump in a Lake Tahoe hotel suite in 2006. Trump, who was married to Melania at the time, faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a payment made to Daniels by his former lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump denies the allegations, attributing them to a politically motivated campaign against him.

Friday’s proceedings are expected to include further cross-examination of Madeline Westerhout and testimony from Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer. Prosecutors allege that Trump falsely categorized payments to Cohen as legal fees to conceal the payment to Daniels and another woman, Karen McDougal, violating campaign finance laws.

Prosecutors have called 16 witnesses so far and may rest their case by May 21. Despite defense requests for a mistrial, the judge has denied them, emphasizing the relevance of Daniels’ testimony to repair her credibility in the trial.
