Protesters in New York Target Seinfeld for His Support of Israel

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld faced anti-Israel protesters while leaving an event in Manhattan on Sunday night, according to the New York Post.

The incident occurred outside the 92nd Street Y on the Upper East Side, where Seinfeld had attended a discussion with former New York Times columnist Bari Weiss, the founder of the Free Press online publication.

As Seinfeld left the venue, protesters accused him of supporting genocide. One protester shouted, “Genocide supporter, you support genocide,” while Seinfeld, amidst the commotion, entered a black SUV with NYPD officers. The tensions escalated further as another individual yelled, “F*** you, you support genocide,” as Seinfeld’s vehicle drove off.

The protest revolved around Weiss, who had delivered the Y’s annual State of the World Jewry address. She is known for her strong support of Israel and became a target for demonstrators linking her to the death of Refaat Alareer, a Palestinian professor and poet killed in a Gaza airstrike by Israel in December.

Prior to his death, Alareer had criticized Weiss in a tweet, blaming her for any harm that may come to him or his family due to Israeli actions.

Weiss had also criticized Alareer for his controversial comments related to a terrorist attack in southern Israel. Alareer had written, “with or without baking powder.”
