Puerto Rican Governor Calls on Trump to Tackle Venezuelan Socialist President’s Alleged Threat to U.S. Territory – One America News Network

The newly-elected Republican governor of Puerto Rico is spotlighting the military threats from Venezuelan Socialist President Nicolás Maduro against the U.S. territory, following President-elect Donald Trump’s advocacy for expansion.

In a correspondence to the 47th president-elect, Puerto Rican Republican Governor Jennifer González-Colón expressed her anticipation for the Trump administration to “promptly address” Maduro’s recent threats, emphasizing that the “murderous” Socialist leader is trying to “extend his dominance” in the region.
“Just a day ago, shortly after his illegitimate inauguration ceremony intended to maintain power in Venezuela, Socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro suggested an invasion of Puerto Rico,” González-Colón wrote to Trump.
“This represents a direct threat to the United States, our national security, and the region’s stability,” the governor remarked. “I have faith that your forthcoming administration will act swiftly to clarify to the Maduro regime that, under your leadership, the U.S. will safeguard its citizens and sovereignty and will not yield to the threats posed by despot dictators.”
Maduro expressed the warning during a speech at the International Anti-Fascist (Antifa) Festival in Caracas, Venezuela, on Saturday.
“Just as they have a colonization plan to the north, we are committed to a liberation mission,” Maduro declared at the event.
“Our agenda, shaped by Simón Bolívar, clearly states that the freedom of Puerto Rico is on the horizon, and we will achieve it with Brazilian military support,” he asserted.
This threat from the Socialist leader came a mere day after he was sworn in for another term, a position he has occupied since 2013. Meanwhile, multiple nations, including the U.S., have claimed that last year’s elections in Venezuela were “illegitimate,” alleging that Maduro’s Socialist party manipulated the results. The opposition in Venezuela maintains that they possess irrefutable evidence of electoral fraud.
On Tuesday, Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) described Maduro’s invasion threat toward Puerto Rico as “foolish and lamentable,” while commending González-Colón’s strong stance against the Venezuelan president’s comments.
“Under Biden, adversaries like those in the Maduro narcotics dictatorship have been emboldened by his inadequate policies,” noted Diaz-Balart.
“However, in less than a week, a new foreign policy focused on freedom and U.S. national security will take effect,” he continued, alluding to the incoming Trump administration. “Allies will be treated with respect, while adversaries will not be coddled.”
“Maduro’s reign is nearing its end. If he wishes to avoid a fate similar to other dictators like [Benito] Mussolini and [Muammar] Gaddafi, he should depart Venezuela without delay,” declared Diaz-Balart.
Moreover, Governor González emphasized that her citizens have proudly been “American citizens since 1917,” consistently rejecting propositions to transform the U.S. territory into an independent state.
“Maduro’s call for an invasion plainly seeks to eliminate the U.S. presence and expand his influence in the region,” she remarked.
“As the Governor of Puerto Rico, I am eager to collaborate with you and your administration to counter the threats posed by the illegitimate Maduro regime and support the Venezuelan people’s quest for liberty,” she added. “I also look forward to engaging in productive conversations about enhancing Puerto Rico’s national security role and taking a robust approach against the increasing presence of adversaries in our region.”
