Putin Approves Treaty with Iran, Enhancing Military and Diplomatic Relations – One America News Network

President Vladimir Putin of Russia has enacted a law confirming a 20-year strategic partnership agreement with Iran, designed to bolster diplomatic and military relations between the two nations.

This agreement reportedly stipulates that neither country will offer military support to any third parties during conflicts involving the other, as noted by The Jerusalem Post.
According to Russian state media, this pact establishes a structure for sustained collaboration between Tehran and Moscow, encompassing areas such as defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
“This [treaty] creates better conditions for bilateral cooperation in all areas,” Putin asserted.
“We need less bureaucracy and more concrete action. Whatever difficulties arise from outside, we will be able to overcome them and proceed,” he remarked, in reference to Western sanctions imposed on both countries.
This recent development highlights Russia’s ongoing strategy to strengthen ties with U.S. adversaries, including North Korea, Belarus, and China—a primary focus since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict.
Reports indicate that Iran has supplied Russia with thousands of Shahed drones and short-range ballistic missiles to assist in Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, according to the Kyiv Independent.
The partnership emerges amidst threats from President Donald Trump regarding military action against Iran, due to the nation’s advancing nuclear capabilities. There have also been attempts by Iranian operatives to target Trump.
In November 2024, charges were unsealed by the Department of Justice against Farhad Shakeri, alleged to be an Iranian government operative, for masterminding a assassination scheme aimed at Trump. Shakeri purported that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard directed him to create a surveillance and elimination plan for Trump within a week.
During the previous week, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff engaged with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with a senior Trump administration official noting that both parties “achieved significant progress in our direct and indirect discussions.”
Moreover, Witkoff recently met with Putin on April 11th in St. Petersburg for a session lasting over four hours, addressing various facets of the ongoing Ukrainian-Russian conflict.
On April 26th, further discussions between Iran and Russia are anticipated to take place in Oman.
