Rabbi Menken criticizes schools for prioritizing ‘antisemitic barbarians’ over Jews, in conversation with Newsmax

Rabbi Yaakov Menken, managing director of the Coalition for Jewish Values, raised concerns over the situation at Columbia University, referring to a troubling choice between Jews and “antisemitic barbarians.”

In an interview with Newsmax on Monday, Menken emphasized the severity of the issue, stating, “University administrators are faced with a choice between Jews and antisemitic barbarians, as seen at Columbia. So far, they seem to be choosing the barbarians, and the impact on America is concerning.”

Tensions at Columbia University escalated on Monday, resulting in the suspension of in-person classes due to security threats.

The unrest at Columbia is part of a larger trend affecting universities like New York University and Yale University. At Yale, dozens of anti-Israel demonstrators were reportedly detained on Monday, as per a report by CNN reported.

Menken’s comments on the “Chris Salcedo Show” reflect growing concerns about rising anti-Semitic sentiments on college campuses, particularly evident at Columbia University. He highlighted the university’s decision to shift to virtual learning following safety concerns expressed by Jewish students.

Menken emphasized the historical context of antisemitism, pointing out its genocidal implications and drawing parallels with past atrocities, particularly in Nazi-era Germany. He stressed the urgency of addressing antisemitism promptly.

“Throughout European history, Jews have been expelled from cities and regions over 100 times. This is now happening at Columbia University, reminiscent of the Nazi era in Germany,” Menken explained.

Menken called on institutions to take decisive action against antisemitic behavior, asking them to choose between protecting Jewish students and condoning bigotry.

“They must decide whether to suspend, expel, or arrest the antisemitic individuals, or risk having no Jewish presence on campus. This is a difficult decision each campus, like Yale and Harvard, must make,” he noted.

The Coalition for Jewish Values advocates for Jewish interests and values, aiming to combat antisemitism and promote tolerance in society.
