Rep. Aderholt calls for a delay in House Appropriations Chair vote
Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, urged party leaders to postpone a vote for a new chair and instead focus on addressing concerns and outlining a plan for managing responsibilities.
Aderholt, a potential candidate for the position, emphasized the need for the conference to collaborate on defining a clear path forward before selecting a new chairman.
He criticized the current spending process as “fundamentally flawed” and stressed the importance of finding solutions to improve the system before moving ahead.
Rules Committee Chairman Tom Cole, R-Okla., who is interested in replacing current Appropriations Committee chairwoman Kay Granger, R-Texas, rejected Aderholt’s suggestion to delay the election.
Cole questioned the rationale behind delaying the decision and emphasized the need for a timely selection, considering the familiarity and respect between potential candidates.
Aderholt, the senior GOP member on the Appropriations Committee, emphasized the need for change in the committee’s leadership, highlighting the opportunity to reform the process for better outcomes.
