Rep. Alford Tells Newsmax that Biden Rejects Slowing Down Migrant Surge
Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., stated in an interview with Newsmax that President Joe Biden has the authority to secure the southern border and prevent nearly 75% of illegal migrants from entering the country. However, Alford believes that the President is unwilling to take such action.
Discussing the situation, Alford highlighted Biden’s previous announcement in January that he could close the border if the number of daily crossings exceeded 5,000, contingent on passing a bipartisan bill in Congress, which ultimately did not occur.
Alford emphasized his stance on border security and criticized the lack of action in implementing measures such as ending the catch-and-release program and reinstating the ‘remain in Mexico’ policy, which could potentially reduce illegal crossings significantly.
Furthermore, Alford expressed concern over New York City’s decision to provide prepaid debit cards to certain migrants, stating that such incentives only encourage more illegal immigration.
Alford referenced the HR2 Secure The Border Act passed in May of the previous year, criticizing the lack of progress in addressing border security issues. He urged for a stronger stance on securing the border and reiterated that the President has the necessary means to do so but has chosen not to act.
